Frankenweenie Meets Frankenwheat - in David Kirkpatrick's blog, Travels In Transmedia

“Frankenwheat”…. It’s tough to criticize wheat, bread, cakes, crackers,  hot dog or hamburger buns, it’s  queasily un-American. Even worse, it’s not very Biblical. After all, bread is a sustenance for people in both the Old and New Testaments.

Don’t let “Frankenwheat” turn you into a “Frankenweenie”.

The wheat of Eden, or the wheat of the Egyptians is the wheat with which  our  Grandparents used to bake or which the original Wonderbread of 1925 was made.  That was Einkorn wheat. You know, the wheat that was long-stalked, golden and blew in the win…those  “Amber Waves of grain” from one of America’s anthems?

The downer is that almost all bread goods (hot dog buns and Hamburger buns and 100% whole wheat) manufactured in America are bad for you.  “Big Food” says it’s all so very good for you except that it’s GMO wheat now known as “Dwarf wheat”.

The Dwarf Wheat is High Yield

It was hard for American Farmers to grow the tall wheat – while the answer may be blowing in the wind, the wind was tough on that wheat and much of it never reached harvest. So over the last 50 years, those scientists have been re-engineering wheat into what is known as “Dwarf wheat”. It has now morphed into a stocky little wheat that leaves you fat and tired. Here’s the progress of that re-engineering over the last 50 years:

The grain we eat today has been cross-bred and hybridized so many times that its molecular structure is nothing like its original form; it’s got twice as many chromosomes as it had before.    The initial reason the first hybrids were engineered back in the early 70′s was a good one – to increase crop yield and decrease world hunger. In fact, American, Norman Borlaug,  was awarded the Nobel prize in 1970 in recognition of his contributions to world peace through increasing food supply. The problem is that the GMO wheat of today has never  really been tested for its effect on human consumption.  So essentially, we have been the guinea pigs – and now we see an obese, diabetic and arthritic nation  in its wake.

Dr. Mark Hyman, author of the Blood Sugar Solution states:

Hard to believe, isn’t it? This thing they call “wheat” is addictive?

Try Getting Off Wheat For Two Months

My little brother called me last week to tell me how it has been wheat free for 8 weeks and has lost 25 pounds. He now has consistent energy all day long.  He sent me a picture of himself at his daughter’s high school graduation and I could hardly believe the difference. He looked radiant and it wasn’t just because he was a proud Dad!

In the conversation, he wanted to send me a book about the diet called the Wheat Belly Diet, created by Dr. William Davis    but he didn’t want to offend me. I saved him the shipping costs and  readily uploaded it on my Kindle and read it.

I have now been wheat free for one single week. I have more energy; I have lost 6 pounds, and I don’t ever feel tired or bloated….and I’m still a little fat but I don’t feel fat – cause I don’t have that feeling of being “weighted down” Do you ever feel that way?

You might want to try it and see.  It’s summer time, I know and all those BBQs! But it’s  not that hard to go to a BBQ and have a burger without the bun, especially when it helps preserve your health long-term and gives you back your energy and keeps you at bay from arthritis and diabetes.

Dr. Mark Hyman in the Huffington Post recently said, “My personal hope is that together we can create a national conversation about a real, practical solution for the prevention, treatment, and reversal of our obesity, diabetes and chronic disease epidemic. Getting off wheat may just be an important step.”
