Merlin is my work in progress.
This 120 second video of what “Merlin” is was produced and directed by talented videographer, Jonny Jermyn. The whimsical music is provided by the dark and dramatic Bernard Herrmann.
Winston Churchill once said, “Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.”
My virtual and social friends have asked me to where I have disappeared. I have been inconsistent with my blogging, and I mean no disrespect to my loyal subscribers. I have been so out of the twitter, facebook, and instagram scene, I have received urgent PMs from friends as to whether or not I am still alive.
Thankfully, I am. My absence has largely been due to the adventure of which Churchill so eloquently speaks. I was hoping to have the Merlin novels wrapped up by now, but Merlin continues to be a muse with many charms and much wisdom.
This Merlin is inspired by the works of Robert de Boron , a 13th century French author. While de Boron’s work remains significant to the Arthurian Canon , Merlin’s demonic conception and his ties to Joseph of Arimathea have never been realized in a fictional narrative. Two of de Boron’s greatest contributions to the Arthurian Canon – the Holy Grail and the Round Table have never been realized in a populist manner in the way de Boron created them.
I wrote a draft of the first book on Merlin in ninety days and it was in good shape and many concurred. Two years and three editors later, the story continues to amaze in spite in now being a tyrant.
As Merlin is now sixteen hundred years old, I suppose two years is not much of anything :-).
