God: Who is He ?

God Is Who He Says He Is.

The Attributes of God According to God

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us,” wrote A. W. Tozer in The Purpose Of Man.

I get worn down listening to the high priestess of pop culture and the “high priest of human potential” (according to the New York Times) telling the world who God is. I am speaking, of course, about Oprah and Tony Robbins.

“I feel this… and I sense that…and there are ‘millions and millions of ways to God…’ and my national mantra told me…blah…blah…blah…”

Seriously! I am not throwing stones, but when it comes to God, why don’t we let God tell us who he  is?

Who knows you better than anyone? Your Mom? Your wife? Your brother? Who knows ever foul and goal?

You know yourself better than anyone on the planet.

For the Bible-centric Christian, The Bible is the word of God. So why don’t we let God speak this time?

For any of those troubled or lost, I hope this attribute list might help you in some way. I have placed  a Bible reference below the attribute.

Holy

The lord said to Moses, ‘Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.”  (Leviticus 19:1)

The One True God

“I am the Lord and there is no other; apart from me, there is no God.” (Isaiah 45: 5)

Immutable (unchangeable)

“I the Lord do not change.” ( Malachi 3:6)

Omnipresent

“‘Am I only a God nearby,’ declares the Lord, ‘ and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?’ declares the Lord.   Do  I not fill the heavens and the earth. ‘ declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:23-24)

Omniscient (all-knowing)

“You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.       Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely.” ( Psalm 139: 2-4)

Omnipotent (all-powerful)

“Jesus  looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Personal

“And the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness, ‘ and he was called God’s friend.” (James 2:23)

All Wise

“Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar?  Where is the philosopher  of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?… For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom….” (1 Corinthians 20, 25)

Truthful

“Jesus answered, ‘ I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

 Good

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Loving

“God is love.” 1 John 4:8

Faithful

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and    keep his commands. ” (Deuteronomy 7:9)

Just

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Merciful

“The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” (James 5:11)

Peaceful

“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace…” ( 1 Corinthians 14:33

Perfect

“ Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48)

There seems to be a tremendous misunderstanding of who is the Biblical God. A recent  USA Today Survey showed that a majority of Americans believed in God…but interestingly, most could not articulate His attributes.
