Here’s to the Crazy Ones…

January 15, 2012

Martin Luther King Jr_Rosa Parks_Civil DisobedienceLet us now praise famous men…and women,of course: Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. For all we are going through today, may we never forget it only takes a few strong-hearted people to change the world. On this federal holiday, may we remember the values and virtues behind Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  1. This reminds me of something I’ve been mulling over recently. When MLK and his friends were fighting for civil rights, it was common practice by desperate opponents to brand them as Communists. The same happened to union activists when that movement was in its infancy. When I was protesting the Vietnam war in the 60’s, I got the same treatment.
Would anyone like to go back to the days of lynching blacks, exploiting workers, and shipping boys off to useless wars? (OK, so we still do the last one.)
The point is that when you’re called a Commie, realize that you’ve already won. The opposition has thrown in the towel. They have no moral foundation and they know it.
Today, it’s the Occupy Wall Street movement getting the Communist label. Good for them. They’re crazy.
Crazy like all those other prophets.

  2. Great post. to the point and also shocking when one remembers what it takes to make the voices of justice, equality and peace heard. Here is a French contribution to the celebrations of MLK Day: Happy Birthday Monsieur Martin: http://frenchbook.wordpress.com/2012/01/15/happy-birthday-monsieur-martin/
