The Chicago River on St. Patrick’s Day

Before the Chicago River turned green and green beer was poured, there was meaning behind the “wearing of the green” for St. Patrick’s Day.

While Saint Patrick, who turned Ireland from a Druid nation to a Catholic nation in a mere 30 years, he seldom wore green. Blue was his color.

But green was Patrick’s instrument  of choice. He yanked from the

grounds of Ireland , clover which had three leaves . Patrick used it as a way to explain the mystery of the Christian God to a then pagan nation: that God was singular and plural at once; that God was the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

So if you are going to wear green; just remember what it initially represented the Christian Godhead.
